Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy
is the technique of harnessing the therapeutic properties of essential oils and
using them to promote well being in a relaxing massage. This massage combines
the sense of smell with the healing value of touch. Touch therapies have been
used over centuries to heal and relax. Aromatherapy works on the lymphatic
system of the body which drains waste products away from the cells for
filtration in the lymph nodes, and returns cleaner fluid back to the blood.
The origins of Aromatherapy go back over thousands of years. The Chinese used the healing power of plants as long ago as 4500 BC. Hieroglyphics and paintings have been found depicting fragrant oils being used as gifts to the Gods. The traditional Indian Ayurvedic system of medicine has long since used plant lore for healing. Greeks and Romans have also been documented as having used aromatics in their general culture.
Today most households are familiar with some form of Aromatherapy in day to day life. A pot pourri in the living room or bedroom can calm a stressful day. Perfumes and fragrances bring back memories of people and places. Different aromas can change our moods. A lavender scented pillow can aid restful sleep. A few drops of eucalyptus on a handkerchief can relieve a stuffy nose. How good does it feel to sit in the garden and smell the fragrance of roses on a summer day? Our sense of smell is so important to us but we tend to lead such busy lives that we do not "stop to smell the roses" any more.
A qualified Aromatherapist practices the art of knowing which essential oils to use and how to blend them.
Different oils are beneficial for different people. Some oils are not suitable for some people.
With your initial consultation you will be asked to complete a health questionnaire. This will give me a picture of you and your individual needs. A blend of oils will then be made especially for you.
Aromatherapy really is a most enjoyable de-stressing therapy, which will help to bring your mind and body back into balance.
